The Everlasting Covenant

The everlasting covenant was first promised to Abram while uncircumcised (Gen 15:18Gen 15:18
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

). Then Abram’s name was changed to Abraham and he was promised to be a father of many nations (Gen 17:4Gen 17:4
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. many...: Heb. multitude of nations

). Likewise, Sarah was blessed to become mother of nations and kings (Gen 17:16Gen 17:16
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. she...: Heb. she shall become nations

). At the same time the covenant was reaffirmed and the circumcision seal was given to Abraham and his descendents (Gen 17:10-14Gen 17:10-14
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. 11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. 12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. he that is eight...: Heb. a son of eight days 13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

). The same covenant was subsequently confirmed to Isaac and Jacob.

Joseph had twelve sons but loved Joseph more than the others. Due to jealousy, his brothers sell him as a slave to slave traders going to Egypt. Subsequently, due to a famine in the land, all the children of Israel go to Egypt. The total who came out of Jacob were 70 souls. But now, Joseph has become the Lord of the land and second only to Pharaoh. The children of Israel live free, prosper and multiply in the choicest part of the Land of Egypt. After 400 years, a new Pharaoh who did not know Joseph, makes their life miserable and enslaves them with hard labor.

Yahweh remembered His Covenant when He heard their groaning in captivity (Ex 2:26Ex 2:26
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

). He sent them a Redeemer deliverer from the tribe of Levi, Moses, to lead them out of the house of bondage. The everlasting covenant envisioned a kingdom of priest (Ex 19:6Ex 19:6
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

) and a sanctuary not built with human hands (Ex 15:17Ex 15:17
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

). Thus, it was formalized to the twelve tribes at Horeb under the Levitical priesthood and Legal administration by Aaron (Ex 19:24Ex 19:24
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

24 And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.

WP-Bible plugin
). This priesthood was only temporary since the blood of animals could not effect permanent change in sinful mankind and was just a prophetic foreshadow of the blood of the everlasting covenant (Heb 7:11Heb 7:11
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

WP-Bible plugin
). An everlasting priesthood covenant was promised for atonement (Num 25:13Num 25:13
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

WP-Bible plugin
). The everlasting covenant was confirmed by Moses at Moab (Deut 1-29), and further ratified by Joshua at Shechem (Joshua 24).

The covenant is then unconditionally established with king David and eternally promised to ONE of his sons (1 Chronicles 17:11-141 Chronicles 17:11-14
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever. 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: 14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

). David sings prophetic praises with lyrics about the promise of the everlasting priesthood of Melchizedek (Psa 110:4Psa 110:4
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

WP-Bible plugin
). Subsequently after a falling away, the everlasting covenant is confirmed by king Josiah (2nd Kings 23:2-3).

As time passed by the Levitical Priesthood Covenant became defiled (Neh 13:29Neh 13:29
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

29 Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites. because...: Heb. for the defilings

& Mal 2:8Mal 2:8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. stumble at: or, fall in

WP-Bible plugin
). Yahweh used prophets Jeremiah (31-31-34) and Isaiah (61:6) to promise a New everlasting Priestly Covenant. Prophet Amos was used to promise a day when the Yahweh Himself will rebuild the fallen tabernacle of David and join the remnant of men (Israel) and all the Gentiles that invoke His name (LXX Amos 9:11-12Amos 9:11-12
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

11 In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: close: Heb. hedge, or, wall 12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this. which...: Heb. upon whom my name is called

).

When that day came, a redeemer foreshadowed by Moses, of the seed of David announced that He came to set the captives free. He started His public ministry by reading from Isaiah 61 aka the scroll of Melchizedek found at at cave in Qumram. Later, He finished His earthly minister with death and resurrection after holding the Passover Seder. He broke bread and shared wine (Gen 14:18Gen 14:18
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

) and washing the feet of the disciples (Ex 40-12&31-32). There was a “transposition” of the Levitical covenant and the Melchizedek covenant during the Passover Seder also called last supper. These new royal priests according to the order of Melchizedek needed anointing which came at the upper room on the feast of Shavuot (Acts 2:1-4Acts 2:1-4
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

2 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

).

The administration of the Law was “transferred” from the now old and fading away Levitical priesthood to the new covenant of the Melchizedek priesthood (Hebrews 7:12Hebrews 7:12
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

WP-Bible plugin
).

The sacrificial part of the Law was fulfilled with the ultimate sacrifice of Messiah (Heb 10:1Heb 10:1
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

10 1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

WP-Bible plugin
& 7:19). But the administration of the Law is transferred from the old Levitical priesthood covenant to the new everlasting covenant of the Melchizedek priesthood (Isa 61:8Isa 61:8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

WP-Bible plugin
). Further proof of this is found in Acts 15. Besides, it is noteworthy the fact that the tribe of Levi is not listed separate from the twelve tribes in Rev 7.

The Everlasting Covenant CAN NOT and WAS NOT revoked (Gal 3:15Gal 3:15
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. covenant: or, testament

WP-Bible plugin
) and a New One WAS NOT put in its place. Read Rev 7 and 14 and inform yourself of how the first fruits, aka the remnant of Israel (Zep 3:13Zep 3:13
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

WP-Bible plugin
), are from the 12 tribes of Israel.

The Everlasting covenant’s door was apparently just now opened to the (uncircumcised) Gentiles. But this was hinted at in the Torah since Abram received the promise while uncircumcised. So that both Jew and Gentile can be of the faith of Abraham (Gal 3:14Gal 3:14
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

WP-Bible plugin
). Both Jew and Gentile, circumcised and uncircumcised can be heirs of the promise to the seed of Abraham (Yahushua haMoshiach) and be part of the commonwealth of Israel (Isa 61:9Isa 61:9
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

9 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.

; Gal 3:29Gal 3:29
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

).

The everlasting covenant is now nearly fulfilled once the 12 tribes are rejoined as one under Moshiach the seed of David, Yahushua haMoshiach crowned with His elect. The everlasting covenant is completed with the Davidic Monarchy Covenant and the Covenant of a High Priest after the order of Melchizedek and thus are called the covenants of promise (Eph_2:12). The Moshiach shed the blood of the everlasting covenant (Heb 13:20Heb 13:20
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, covenant: or, testament

). His position in the everlasting covenant is multi-fold. His exaltation is supreme as: Sacrifice, Temple, Redeemer, King of kings, Lord of lords, High Priest, First fruit, Bridegroom, First born, Emmanuel, God with us.
