First & Second Covenants

The First Covenant was broken by Israel with the worship of the golden calf (Ex 32:1Ex 32:1
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

32 1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

However, there was a hint of a future Second “New” Covenant (Exodus 34:4-10Exodus 34:4-10
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone. 5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. 8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance. 10 And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.

We also read that it was certain that Israel was going to whore after false gods (Deut 31:16Deut 31:16
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them. sleep: Heb. lie down

This resulted in Israel, but not Judah, being divorced and exiled (Jer 3:8Jer 3:8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

) The Law is the set of instructions from the Father for righteous living. That won’t change ever.

[Messiah didn’t come to abolish the Law. If anything, Messiah, came to magnify the Law and make it honorable Isa_42:21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable]

There are two possible approaches to do the will of the Father:
1) The legalizer approach attempted by he who becomes a debtor to the whole Law and foolishly aims to attain righteousness. For Messiah is the end of the Law for RIGHTEOUSNESS (Yes! Rom 10:4Rom 10:4
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

WP-Bible plugin
). The Law only ended for RIGHTEOUSNESS but it never ended as the Perfect Will of the Father….thus welcome to approach #2

2) The redeemed of Messiah approach at observing the Law is for a reward. No longer as a debtor and no longer as a yoke. For it iss not observed to obtain RIGHTEOUSNESS. This is imputed by faith alone in the atonement propitiation of Yahushua haMoshiach. It is a fruit of repentance.

Do you want proof that Yahushua expects you to obey even the lesser commandments?

Mat_5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The new covenant in Messiah does not ‘replace’ the old. The old is fulfilled, contained within it and it is upgraded to a new level of promises with oath.
